EMS JUNIOR SCHOOL CROWNED 2026 HIGHLAND GAMES CHAMPIONS
“Some of the best things about taking part in the Gordonstoun Games were how much it felt like a real Highland Games. The pipes at the start and at the end of the ceremony, leading us in and out, made it feel really exciting, almost like a carnival. All the traditional events, like the haggis throw and the caber toss, made it even more special and increased this feeling. The hill race wasn’t anything like I expected. The hill and the course were quite surprising, but in a good way, because you had to think carefully about where you were going and how to get there. It was also really fun to watch your friends doing their events. It was amazing when they did well, but even if they didn’t, it was still great to cheer them on. One of my favourite parts was the tug of war. Doing it as a team and winning together felt brilliant. Afterwards, we all had such a wonderful vibe as a team, and it showed that even something as simple as pulling a rope can be really rewarding. At the end of the day, during the presentation, everything felt quite tense because we were really proud of our performance and excited to see the results.”
PROUD THIRD-PLACE FINISH FOR CARGILFIELD PREP SCHOOL AT THE 2026 GORDONSTOUN HIGHLAND GAMES
Away from the competition, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Round Square, which was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and experience life at Gordonstoun. We would just like to say a huge thanks to Gordonstoun for hosting us!

“We did a lot of preparation leading up to the highland games every P.E lesson we would be working on our tug of war strategy, running, wellie boot throwing as well as working as a team.
We were all very excited to be competing in the highland games. When we arrived and saw all the other Moray Schools it was clear everyone there was keen to do their best.
Even though we didn’t do as well in the tug of war as we’d hoped we still had so much fun. Between each event we would all be running around seeing how everyone else was doing and cheering them on.
At the end after the pipe band marched round for the last time we all got into lines and Mrs Lyall announced the winner’s ; 3rd place was said, 2nd place was said, we were happy for all the other teams, then 1st place was announced… Hopeman Primary! We were all jumping around screaming with joy, all are hard work paid off. We went on stage, shaking hands with everyone, saying thank you, we got our meddles still ecstatic about our win.
We were all so grateful that we even had a chance to compete, we wouldn’t have done it without the teaching of Mr McVean.”
